Scottish Association

A proposal to have a Scottish Association was first raised by Cleveland Ellis in 1899. The idea was raised again over the years, including by John Goldsmith (Secretary of the recently formed Guildford Diocesan Guild) when visiting Scotland in January 1932, and this led to an inaugural meeting taking place at St Mary's Edinburgh on 23rd April 1932. Between 40 and 50 ringers from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leith, Alloa, Dundee and Paisley attended. Further background can be found in A History of Change Ringing in Scotland by Simon Aves (2017).
