London County Association (1903-1928)

The LCA began life as the St. James Society in 1824 as its meetings were held at St. James Clerkenwell. After it expanded in 1903 it became known as the London County Association. It was wound up at a meeting in the crypt of St. Clement Danes on February 10th 2007. [Research by John Harrison.]

The Association began its life as the St James' Society in February 1824 which itself appears to have been derived from the earlier St James' Youths. Early meetings of the Society took place at St James, Clerkenwell. In 1903 it expanded to become known under its current title. Between 1929 and 1968 the name was expanded to the London County Association and North Southwark Diocesan Guild, before reverting to its former name in 1968. The Association was dissolved on 10th February 2007. For further details see the Ringing World (22nd February 1974, pages 149 to 152, 169 to 172; also 2nd March 2007, page 226 to 227). [Research and observations associated with the Council Library Certificates Collection by Chris Ridley.]
