Llandaff & Monmouth Diocesan Association

This was founded in 1921 as a successor to the Llandaff Diocesan Association when the new diocese of Monmouth was formed [Research by John Harrison.]

Towards the end of the 19th century the Diocese of Llandaff covered a large area, consisting of the whole of Monmouthshire and the greater part of Glamorgan. A ringers' meeting on 13th October 1893 agreed to set up the Llandaff Diocesan Association. When the Diocese was divided to create the new Diocese of Monmouth in 1921 the question of whether the existing Association should be divided into two separate societies was raised. However, in 1921 it was agreed to retain the existing organisation but simply change its name to reflect the new arrangements. For further background see the Ringing World (22nd November 1946, page 555). [Research and observations associated with the Council Library Certificates Collection by Chris Ridley.]
